South of the Border

Sometimes you just need to take a break and get away for a few days. For those of us lucky enough to live here in San Diego, the Dirty Peninsula i.e. Baja Norte calls our name. A few of the Murphy Shapes extended (dysfunctional) family members recently returned from a quick 4-day hit and put their quiver of Murphy longboards to work on some fun, and damn cold, right-pointbreak.

50th Anniversary: WindanSea Surf Club

The WindanSea Surf Club is celebrating their 5oth anniversary and commissioned a custom memorial longboard for this special occasion. This beauty is a 9'-6" cruiser modeled after some of Bear Mirandon's work from the 1960's. 16-1/4" x 22" x 12-3/4" loaded with Volan, custom stringers and a Bear inspired glass-on single fin. Thanks Bear! This baby may wind up in the California Surf Museum in Oceanside or may end up in one very lucky surfers hands.

Murphy Shapes on the Podium

Congratulations to team rider Lucas Foster on his recent accomplishment! Lucas killed it in the WSA West Coast Championships last weekend. He came in 2nd in Under 18 and 3rd in Open Mens Longboard. It was held at Chruches and they were getting ten-second hang tens. Scoring 9.5's in a very exciting final.

This is a new quad-mini which I made for Nick a few months back. He LOVES this stick and just ordered another one for back-up so he won't have any down time! How cool to have such a stoked professional customer who knows what he wants. He's a great exec chef too. dm
