Oh Canada

Hockey and Surfing........ what's the connection? I never thought about it until this summer. Hockey players glide and skate across frozen H2O and we glide on moving H2O. Water....... and the ability to balance on it.
The Canadians invaded San Diego recently. The Roy brothers from Calgary spent a few weeks down in San Diego learning how to surf under the tutelage of Murphy Surfboards happy ambassador Chris Miller. Either surfing at one of the Del Mar reefs, or getting pounded at Torrey Pines, they left San Diego stoked and knowing how to surf.

Andre Roy on his Enzo Egg.

The Calgary Flames: The new official NHL team of Murphy Surfboards. Don't'cha know...

Surfing and Cold Ones

Seems to me, these two kind of go hand in hand. Every country I have ever traveled to, and spent time surfing in, all enjoy the ice cold hops, the beach and stand loyal and true to their local brews. Here's a few examples:

In Viti Levu there were always Fiji Bitter's and Fiji Gold's ready for post surf hydration.

Even Ronan the unofficial-wannabe-Murphy-shophound enjoys a Mexican cerveza (when his mom is not looking).

And even the good folks at Foster's lager like their surfing. This guy's last name happened to be Murphy, he was riding a Murphy longboard and cruisin the Leucadia beach with his lady. Time for a pint, a sanga and just chill in me boardies with me shiela, eh Dingo. *ok I'm bored.....

Skip Frye and Dennis Murphy

That's over 80 years of surfboard shaping experience and expertise looking back at you. Two of the best longboard shapers left here in San Diego. Photo was taken recently at the UCSD Cancer Center Luau and Longboard Invitational held at Scripps.

Here's Dennis' contribution to the auction and raffle. Wide balsa and redwood stringer, wood tail block and beautiful glassed on skeg. It fetched a few $K and has made somebody very happy indeed.

Classic art that you can actually ride.
