Ice 9 Murphy Fat Balsa Stringer Fish Blank

Another project Dennis has been working on is the Ice 9 fat balsa stringer fish blank.  He ordered his foam from the guys at Ice 9 unglued and then he and Dan made up a chambered balsa and 100 year old reclaimed redwood stringer for the center. Last we talked he was still figuring out the board to be built out of it but word is it will be a 5'10" double wing quad. Any takers? This one will be special. If you contact him now he can make anything from a 6'2" and shorter.

Latest Project - Reclaimed Redwood and Balsa 9'6"

Since the Anything But 3 event Dennis has ben working on a new project.  A chambered balsa and 100 year old reclaimed redwood 9'6".  The board is beautiful and light.  You'd be surprised at how light these boards are.  It needs to be fine sanded and glassed and then it is up for sale. If you have interest let it be known now as it won't last long.

We recently received a nice photo of Kirk Waddell from Morro Bay, California. He also sent us a quick story on his relationship with Murphy Surfboards. We look forward to more surfing photos and shots of his quiver.

I came in contact with Dennis Murphy about 10 years ago. My good friend Steve Hennigh owns Good Clean Fun surfshop in Cayucos. I got Dennis connected with Steve and it turned into a great relationship for all involved. I rarely paddle out without seeing someone else on a Murphy, usually one I brought up to boot! In those 10 or so years I've probably ordered 40 boards from Dennis. Right now I think I have 16 of his boards. You name it, I've got it. From just basic longboards to bonzerstyles to beautiful resin tint projects.

South Seas Paradise........ Chris Miller has recently returned from yet another jaunt to the Southern Hemisphere and the Fijian Islands. While recovering from jet lag and societal shock, he was able to send us a few photos. He promises to send more upon his full recovery.

Dennis Wins Best In Show for Balsa and Reclaimed RedWood Fish.

Best in Show-Dennis Murphy for a special lightweight wood board made out of a recycled water tower. Dennis also wins a berth into the Sacred Craft Shape-Off at the next Del Mar event in Fall '09.

My Murphy Quiver - Mikey Brooker

Vintage Nectar

Here is a shot of a great example of a Murphy quiver. Sent in by long time friend Mikey Brooker. Mikey has been riding Murphy's for 20 years now. He is a long time OB surfer and local at Sunset Cliffs. The Nectar surf board was one he got used. It is one of the last few boards Dennis glassed when he was with Nectar Surfboards.
