We needed a traditional pintail a while back, so the Predator was enlisted. The original model hangs in my barn. It is a traditional shape with a “soft” bottom and up-rails in the tail. It worked great. It’s a noserider, but was a bit slow for the guy who rides a progressive nine footer. The next generation Predator got lower rails and a hard edge in the tail – wow, what a difference. That speeds up the game to match play and can keep up with any beachbreak or pointbreak. I’m 5’-10” and 165 lbs., so mine is 2-3/4” thick. You can thicken as needed. dm

This is Dave Berman's new ride. This stick is what I came up with when Dave mentioned that he was interested in one of those minis with two fins glued on the tailblock. I asked him if he had tried one. Naturally his response was "not really". This is a great example of Alex Villalobos' work in the laminating arena. He is smokin' hot with abstracts and swirls. We're so lucky to have him with Diamond Glassing. Dave waxed-up his new 6'8" winger and proceeded to out-paddle the Janitors @ Cardiff for ankle slappers. Great testimony from a guy who regularly rides a 7'10". dm out for now

Cool story from New Zealand:
Hi: i have a board that my father gave me that started me surfing. he bought it at Opua Marina from an American couple who had brought it out to New Zealand on there yacht. It's 9ft with OFishl sidebites. Had a lot of dings about 30 from bounching around at sea for a few years plus a few delams - not the prettyest repairs but water tight. Its been a bit over a year hours of fun and sadly it has cracked the glass rail to rail underneath and prob a third on top (ended a great overhead offshore session).I think will prob have a go at fixing it. Any how just thought you might like to know the boards are being enjoyed all the way down here. I have a couple of pics of the thanks, Tommy

Saturday July 7th a little summer point:

The waves weren't that good- but JP ripped! The sets had some size but it was gnar... No matter, JP picked off the gems...Nobody else in the water was CHARGING like JP!
As usual, there are shots of JP powering through bottom turns cranking hard, drawing the turn out until the precise moment that the section opens up, then projecting into the barrel or through the lip into a slashing cutback. The images are soft due to the harsh lighting but they still convey the commitment and CHARGE that JP brings to every session.

Dr. Steve Baker, DVM, called wanting some fins for his old 7'8" egg. We made it in 1996 for PBSS. It made it's way to Oahu where Steve bought it and has owned it since. He lives in Boise and surfs the south fork of the Payette River @ near flood stages. Here he is dropping into 7000 cubic feet per second of mountain perfection at the 36th St. wave, which only comes up every 3 or 4 years for a few weeks in the spring. I had no idea! I came across this old photo from the 90's. The mid to late 90's was an exciting and productive time for us shapers. I was lucky enough to have a great bunch of guys riding for me and the Iron Cross/Murphy team. Good times! We were stacked: Bassy, Tom and Emmo were hard to beat. And they are still out there ripping it up on all kinds of different boards. Bassy is the man behind Sacred Craft and Emerson, with the Swami's Surfing Association, is still the man at Cardiff. My friend Ed Lewis started making custom handplanes about a year ago. He and his friend Kipp founded *enjoy handplanes in N. County San Diego and they make these handplanes out of recycled foam from old, lifeless and broken surfboards. These old broken down surfboards find new life in the form of a body surfing device – and also avoid the landfill. The quality of these planes is immediately evident in the custom resin tints, design colors and solid glass work. These ‘lil handplanes have really found a unique niche in the surfing market – so much so, that the folks at Sacred Craft have taken notice. I made this board for Jim "Spinnerboy" Cameron, a team rider for Pacific Beach Surf Shop in San Diego. It's a 9'-10" "Hipster" shaped especially for him.
19" nose x 23.5" wide x 15.5" tail, rounded pintail at about 3.25" thick.
It has a 1/2" deep concave and a 48" long, drawn-out-tear-drop. The T-band stringer is cedar/bass/cedar. And it has a unique Volan inlay. It's Nice!

Jeffrey Swartwood got a new holiday present. He has lived in the coastal area of France for over 10 years now, working and raising his children, but when he comes back to San Diego he still gives Dennis the call. He ordered this board two months ago in anticipation of his holiday trip to San Diego this year. He picked this 9'-2" RPTNR up last week and was stoked! It has a rounded pin-tail, cedar and bass stringer, honest red tint, red glue lines and a 2 + 1 fin set-up incorporating FCS Fusion side fins.

Was at a garage sale in Point Loma awhile back and this guy had a back yard strewn with all kinds of old boards, watercraft and boating stuff. It was really quite an interesting scene. Off in the corner I spotted this old, brown Iron Cross that Dennis shaped back in the 90's. Looks like it could have been a team riders board, maybe Meyers... maybe 98 model. She was sun damaged, a little hard around the edges, but she still had a pulse.

That's what Aaron Goulding wrote to J.P. when he sent along these photos. I wish "that day" would come again, and soon. It's still FLAT here in San Diego with otherwise good surfing conditions (light wind, sun, etc.) I'm always amazed, and a bit dumb founded, as how the Pacific Ocean has this fetch of Thousands of miles and does not generate a thigh-high wave to ride. Hopefully this post will change that!

Dennis, I wanted to thank you again. This was my first custom board and the experience was amazing. You are a great person to do business with, the guys over at Diamond Glassing were also a pleasure, and Bill and Todd over at Fins Unlimited are awesome! Please thank those guys for me when you talk to them. Thanks again for an experience I would have never had if I just picked up some pop-out off the rack. It was a lesson in surf culture and history! Stoked and Broke Virtual Premiere This Friday, Saturday and Sunday ONLY
OK. This virtual world is kinda freakin me out, but this sounds cool. You can watch this interesting movie made by San Diegan Cyrus Sutton. Cyrus made it last winter or spring and it took a while to get released. We missed the showing at La Paloma but they are doing an online virtual premiere. Basically it's like being able to watch it on NetFlix or On Demand style from your computer for 3 days in HD. The premise of the movie sounds cool. I'm ready to watch.

Two weeks ago I got my Enzo egg from JP at Murphy Surfboards. I was not sure how well
it would work for me coming off a longboard. But JP was exactly right. I can ride it in anything
from waist high on up no problem - and it paddles great and turns awesome. I am 100% satisfied.
